It was a photo of a tiny piece of paper posted on Facebook in early February 2021 scribbled,
‘a raindrop caged awaits a raging storm. With love and faith,’ from a letter written by Thai human rights activist and lawyer, Anon NAMPA, after he and his comrades were denied bail after several attempts. It was these heaps of paper, letter, and social media post ‘by’ and ‘for’ detained activists. Even though we do not know exactly what to do with them, we decided to go into the storm, taking literary clues as a compass.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Derived from Anon NAMPA’s powerful utterance, ‘A raindrop caged awaits a raging storm’ (ขังฝนเม็ดเดียวเขาจะเจอกับห่าฝน) is a translation project of words circulated during the detention of political activists from 2020 to 2021. Initiated by ซอย&#38;nbsp;&#124; soi, a platform for writing, editing, and publishing in the expanded field, in collaboration with&#38;nbsp;Namkheun Collective, the team selected, translated, and edited words from political activists delivered during 2020-2021. ‘A raindrop caged awaits a raging storm’ is not a corpus, but moments of utterance to be bound up with others. I suppose it is frost on the ground, a project by Namkheun Collective, is its first iteration.

I suppose it is frost on the ground is a collection of excerpts and textual products that emerge from the hostile climate of Thai politics. These are texts taken from prison letters and visitation notes. These are texts written as everyday utterances which do not necessarily evoke the rhetoric of democracy.
It is from these utterances that we are able to sail across the international waters of sentiments and sensibilities.
Commissioned in the context of the BULLET TEXT project (Guangzhou, 2021), Namkheun aims to use these letters not as display objects in themselves, but rather as an entry point into a network of textual references across overlapping temporal, sociocultural, linguistic, or sensorial regimes. They aim to interrogate their own engagement with the letters, both through the act of translating and/or possible dialogue with other activists.

20 x 27&#38;nbsp;cm, 84&#38;nbsp;pages, color,&#38;nbsp;digital,
exposed spine thread sewn-glued, hardcoverDesigned by Lita Chala-adisaiIt is natural for a person or a group of people to seek to belong. Some look for a community, a territory, with lofty and prominent walls, but some carve out their own by eroding, distorting, and cracking the existing ones. These walls or borders are rigid and stubborn, but simultaneously fluid and versatile.

Though invisible and intangible, the “wall”&#38;nbsp;ingeniously functions through social structures and imprint its existence in our subconsciuos. It marks an imaginary border, separating the insider from the outsider. It rises to obstruct the movement of those from both sides of the wall. While it may protect the insiders from the&#38;nbsp;“invasion”&#38;nbsp;of the outside, it also traps the movement of the insiders themselves.&#38;nbsp;“Get&#38;nbsp;off my turf”. This sentence, once uttered, reveals the walls, oncee invisible.“Turf,”&#38;nbsp;therefore, does not only signify the physical territory with specific qualities of proximity, but also indicates the imaginary space in which a person or a group of people create to establish their identities.

Inbetweeners attempts to investigate different “turfs”&#38;nbsp;both the familiar and the unfamiliar. Through our exploration of certain symbols that police and patrol those turfs, we walk in between the territories, along those wall, and, sometimes, enter and lurk into some.BlessingSelf-publishing

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
This photo book began with an interest and subsequent exploration of the various materialities in tools, equipment, furniture and the decor of Buddhist religious sites. All the photos are taken by observing various angles within the buildings. Its complexity is revealed through the excessive ornamentations that function beyond the general usage of the spaces. A whole building that houses just the restrooms as well as the oversaturated colors in every corner of the space. This illicit a paradox of a religion that proclaims detachment and simplicity as their core tenets, and demand rigor and strict behavior upon entrance.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The book takes you on a journey from the initial experiences of a Buddhist person having learned in school the teachings of detachment and the letting go of the material world through to the physical realities of the space that embodies and initiates massive flows of capital. From exterior to interior, one sees through the architecture, centralized mechanisms of controlled practiced in these holy sites. These determine popular tendencies and flatten local belief systems, causing an uncanniness in these sites, traditions, and ceremonies. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The interplay of the photographs contrasts the texts which taught and cements the teachings of Buddhism and the loopholes in government policies towards these religious institutions. The secretive spendings which cannot be checked, money laundering known to be done by these entities colored these decadent photographs of space’s intentions. These cause dissonance in what one sees, a sponge is experienced with the harsh sterility of a floor tile, as the contrast of an over the top decorative chandelier in a holy place preaching non-materialism. These juxtaposition form a free-flowing network of association in which one must navigate for themselves.

		<description>Lita Chala-adisai (Bangkok, 1994) E. lita.chalaadisai(at)gmail.com

living and working in Bangkok, Thailand. Works as a Visual Designer, Graphic Designer, and Visual Merchandiser. Her passion for visual objects and storytelling through the interpretation of personal experiences and visual communication via composition design in photography has led her to become passionate about independent and self-publishing books as a medium for expressing and exploring both design possibilities and her political questions surrounding social structure. Lita is also an active member of the Namkheun collective, a product of disgruntled text exchanges where we shared memes, unfulfilled dreams, and personal insights. Together, we raged over the state of the world. And so, in 2020, Namkheun materialized as an extension of such activities. Understanding written works and translation as a form of activism, we focus primarily on the Thai cultural landscape and the possible reimagining of sociocultural boundaries in Thailand.

Common belief tells us that a vampire’s image cannot appear
in mirrors. Be it because they have no souls or a more interesting theory says that mirrors back then are made from polished silver, a holy substance that deters evil. Perhaps that is why they can appear on film. How ironic when one considers that vampires are a form of time-based medium, or rather one that resists time itself. They often occupy the position of a stranger, they look like us, even think like us yet they are foreign. However, one cannot forget that a vampire cannot enter unless it is allowed, invited. &#38;nbsp;

A specter is haunting us — the specter of colonialism. All the lands of the world have unknowingly entered into this haunting, whether they have directly been colonized or not, such is the case with Thailand and Japan. Some say the specter has long left us, that we are past that age. Some say that we are in the midst of it, regardless one cannot deny how the specter lingers.&#38;nbsp; It has evolved to make itself less distinguishable but no matter how many garments it has changed, it still stalks. Modes of governance thought long since dead have merely adapted to fit in with the times, a secular veneer to once obvious forms of mythical violence, from brutal persecution to parasitic exploitation.

Modern vampires (Bram Stoker’s and John William Polidori’s) appeared in the popular conception during the late early modern era (1800s) as manifested anxieties of state centralization and new notions of exploited labor through industrialization. The prey is no longer dead but sucked dry, a continual and persistent violence to a regime which proposes

modernity yet retains the character of the predatory noble aristocrat now turned bourgeois. One could’v almost mistaken them for a force, an inherently conservative one. An essence of a vampire is one of timelessness&#38;nbsp; — a resistence to change. &#38;nbsp;

It prides itself in its history and those it has turned. The unrelenting desire of immortality and the abandonment of the ceaseless march of time has left them as mere forms for the undead but the image.

Ramavania: Lord of Shadows is a foray into the creation of such entities through geopolitical forces in Asian history during the age of colonization and industrialization. Thailand and Japan’s response to encroaching Western powers through attempts at modernization runs parallel to one another. Both hinging their consolidation of a nation not only through technological advancements but through reconfiguring their relationships with their own supernatural entities, deities and in this case vampires. The bargain for&#38;nbsp; presumed independence is paid with an auto-imperialistic turn, a self-colonization and
re-identification of nationhood, where individuals become Gods and some men never die.

Echoed Tranquility exhibitionKey Visual designArtist: Dinh Q. Lê, Pratchaya Phinthong, and Toshiko Tanaka
Exhibition date: 6 - 20 December 2023
Venue: Event Space at Jim Thompson Art Center
&#38;nbsp;The Sasakawa Peace Foundation and the Surin Pitsuwan Foundation are pleased to extend an invitation to the art exhibition titled "Echoed Tranquillity" at the Jim Thompson Art Center in Bangkok. This exhibition is the result of a collaborative effort among the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Japan and the Surin Pitsuwan Foundation in Thailand with support from the Jim Thompson Art Center, the Embassy of Japan in Thailand and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial MuseuEchoed Tranquility is an art exhibition that delicately captures the essence of tranquility that emerges after conflicts. Through subtle and introspective artworks, the exhibition explores the journey of understanding and resilience in the aftermath of strife. It portrays the intricate interplay between brokenness and renewal. With its nuanced approach, Echoed Tranquility illuminates the subtle conversation and hopeful whispers that arise when shattered landscapes and souls find solace and serenity, embodying the delicate essence of lives after conflicts. The exhibition features a notable artwork by Dinh Q. Lê, 'South China Sea Pishkun' (2009), a new iteration of Pratchaya Phinthong's 'The Organ of Destiny' series, and a collection of enamel paintings by Toshiko Tanaka, who, as a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, transitioned into an artist.More information about the exhibition

A Solo Exhibition by Kamolros Wonguthum15 July – 17 September 2023Gallery VER, NOpening Reception: 15 July 2023, 18:00 - 21:00Gallery VER is pleased to present the exhibition “🎀” by our represented artist, Kamolros Wonguthum A cute rhizome formulates structures of substance, shiny emaciated luxury compositions – sketchy and recognisable topographical forms – archipelagos of wealth straddle the walls with their shiny chromatic skeins... layered flotsam and jetsam... mirroring our social precariousness.All that glitters is ontological precarity and dark potentiality. The dialectics of aesthetics in our global saturated commodification, is a realm of discourse of an unconscious realism. A stratified plethora of neural sights, psychic renderings and feelings; embodied knowledge of pathways that waver into the imagination for pleasurable escapism. Ones that are constantly and implausibly equidistant, never seeming to be fully reachable, just out of sight, just out of attainment.Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi, discusses the unconscious of a society in his post-pandemic work ‘The Third Unconscious’ (2021), where our unconscious connectedness is what fundamentally underpins the whole of the social world. For Berardi, ‘Freud, who conceived the Unconscious as the dark side of the well ordered framework of Rational Progress’ (Berardi, 9, 2021) is critical of this contradictory perceived development. A plurality of profit and unrecognised provocation. The codified dialectics of capital, bounce and play in terms of alternatives of uncertainty to direct meaning; values of desire act as a substrate from this psycho-social world. Kamolros’s new assembled work, pins down both poles of this dialectic: the aesthetic sales-ship of a sexy and glossy ambiguity, to an aware civil-comatose, wrapped up with ribbons and bows.The exhibition encapsulates a knowledge of brinkmanship. Where cellar doorways mooch into the dark side of the subtleness of the soul. Meanings... as in the meanings we hold to knowledge and values, act like the psycho-social babble of lucrative and desperate sales pitches, incoherence: but specific of a deeper social understanding – the dialectics of capitals unconscious.A publication alongside this exhibition features New York based writer and journalist, from SSENSE, VICE and Rolling Stone, Gaby Wilson’s cultural response.Key Visual Design: Lita Chala-adisai

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; “Almost Nature,” the exhibition by Anon Chaisansook and Tammarat Kittiwatanokun, is an end result of a project by the two artists who set out to explore the history and fictions that are specific to a place.In mid-2017, Chaisansook and Kittiwatanokun started visiting the zoo in Bangkok regularly to observe the micro-narratives at the place. The intimate details — be them from the varied styles of garden decors, or in the taxidermy museum with realistic dioramas, to a bunker from the Greater East Asia War era that was later turned into a Serow menagerie — all exhibited the period and time the zoo had withstood.The layering narratives from the past that remain connected to today’s events and contemporary Thai history leave the zoo anachronistic and suspended in time, forming a pasteurized ecosystem, or a world within itself.The artists gathered information by taking photographs, interviewing zookeepers, and collecting raw samples. Using what is left of the memories — those of the site and of the individuals — the artists created artworks ranging from photography and small-sized sculptures to video art and fake souvenirs, all of which will be on display at the exhibition.

ZingVDO Key Visual

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; ZingVDO is an exhibition platform for all those interested in the subject, no matter the practice. We welcome those from all fields, whether it be an animator, designer, vlogger, and etc.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Our first project, ‘Fish tank’ originates from our interest in a contained ecosystem that serves as decor like those in a restaurant.
A glass cage for entertainment that exists in various public places, existing only to be observed.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; We have created an ecosystem of a fish tank and installed a screen within it. Situated on the second-floor dining area of a restaurant.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Translated as ‘Rising Tides’, Namkheun (น้ำขึ้น) is a literary collective based in Bangkok, Thailand. Namkheun is a product of disgruntled text exchanges and over-the-phone gossip sessions between three friends over the years. Together, we raged over the state of the world. Together, we shared memes, unfulfilled dreams, and personal insights. And so in 2020, Namkheun materialised as an extension of such activities, an open chat if you will. &#38;nbsp; Namkheun Collective consists of Kritti Tantasith,
Wirunwan&#38;nbsp;Victoria Pitaktong, and Lita Chala-adisai.

First Project: Namkheun Manifesto

&#60;img width="1590" height="403" width_o="1590" height_o="403" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/550b07f8e95a4531dd9d6165c300ad8fab6e5a11ca6cf59dc12c1b4dd8d2c284/NK_Manifesto_BW.png" data-mid="164184395" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/550b07f8e95a4531dd9d6165c300ad8fab6e5a11ca6cf59dc12c1b4dd8d2c284/NK_Manifesto_BW.png" /&#62;

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Namkheun Manifesto began with a simple and personal question: ‘Why do I find this manifesto I’m reading so moving?’. Six manifestos were selected, and translated into Thai, based on our own affinity and allegiance to the urgencies raised by each manifesto. Regarding these manifestos as points of departure for further reading of proposed modes of resistance, the project aims to interrogate our own engagement with the texts, and form a conversation with the reader by teasing out resonances among contexts.

The Black Book Assembly More-Than-Half-a-Year-in-Review is an irregularly published newsletter initiative of the Black Book Assembly, a loose network of activist writers, artists and publishers from East and Southeast Asia. Each issue is edited from a different locale but treads across geographies to maintain the affinities of common struggle and deepen the toolbox of means and manoeuvres. The first issue began under the pavement of Hong Kong, followed by issue two edited by the Little Black Book Club of Seoul. This third issue, brought together in Bangkok, has been edited by textual collective Namkheun in collaboration with Hong Kong-based Display Distribute. Three years, myriad movements and now amid a pandemic, we ask: When we are no longer able to assemble, what are we doing now?
A Raindrop Caged Awaits a Raging StormDerived from Anon Nampa’s powerful utterance, ‘A raindrop caged awaits a raging storm’ (ขังฝนเม็ดเดียว เขาจะเจอกับห่าฝน) is a translation project of words circulated during the detention of political activists from 2020 to 2021. Initiated by
ซอย &#124; soi, a platform for writing, editing, and publishing in the expanded field, in collaboration with Namkheun Collective, we selected, translated, and edited words from political activists delivered during 2020-2021. ‘A raindrop caged awaits a raging storm’&#38;nbsp; is not a corpus, but moments of utterance to be bound up with others.

A part of I suppose it is frost on the ground. publications

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; I suppose it is frost on the ground is a collection of excerpts and textual products that emerge from the hostile climate of Thai politics. These are texts taken from prison letters and visitation notes. These are texts written as everyday utterances which do not necessarily evoke the rhetoric of democracy. It is from these utterances that we are able to sail across the international waters of sentiments and sensibilities.
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; In the context of this exhibition, we aim to use these letters not as display objects in themselves, but rather as an entry point into a network of textual references across overlapping temporal, sociocultural,

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; linguistic, or sensorial regimes. We aim to interrogate our engagement with the letters, either through our translating or possible dialogue with other activists (i.e. Black Window). We expect that this engagement will leave textual traces, and it is these traces that the exhibition will feature.
